Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocal Music Technical University, founded in 1993, is a modern, standardized and international full-time private institution of higher learning headed by Shanghai Education Commission.

In April 2002, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education, the "Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical College" was established on the basis of Zhongqiao College, which was incorporated into the national unified enrollment plan with the approval of the Ministry of Education and was eligible to issue diplomas independently.

20 15 was selected as the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units in China. 20 19 12 was approved as an undergraduate institution of higher learning through the executive meeting of the minister of education. The first pilot school of vocational education at undergraduate level in Shanghai is the second batch in China.

In June 2020, Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical College (undergraduate) was renamed Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University.

The school is located in Zhangyan Town, Jinshan, Shanghai, with a planned area of more than 500 mu, all-European architecture, complete software and hardware facilities, and a green coverage rate of over 37%, which is suitable for more than 6,000 teachers and students to study and live at school. The investor of the college is Shanghai Zhida Technology Group Co., Ltd., one of the top 100 private enterprises in China. Yan Jianjun, the chairman of the group, is also the chairman of Huaqiao University, and the current president is Professor Chen.

Huaqiao University makes a fuss about "characteristics", which is specifically summarized as "overseas Chinese with characteristics". Six secondary colleges, including School of Economics and Management, School of Information Engineering, School of Architecture and Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of Food and Drug, and School of Art, together with the original nursing and health college and the basic department (ideological and theoretical course teaching department), added Zhida College and Intelligent Manufacturing College, forming a new teaching unit pattern consisting of nine secondary colleges and 1 teaching department. The college has gradually formed a style of study of "being diligent in seeking knowledge, reading widely and thinking diligently" and a teaching style of "being practical in teaching and diligent in educating people".
