Shanxi Medical University, formerly known as Shanxi Medical College, was founded in the ancient city of Bingzhou, 19 19. 1932 changed to private Shanxi Chuanzhi Medical College. 1940 changed its name to medical major of Shanxi University. 1946 was upgraded to National Medical College of Shanxi University. After the founding of New China, the school entered a brand-new development period. 1953 Independent school, renamed Shanxi Medical College. 1996 changed its name to Shanxi Medical University.

The school has three campuses: Chanz, Yingze and Zhongdu. There are First Clinical Medical College, Second Clinical Medical College, Fenyang College, Basic Medical College, Public Health College, Pharmacy College, Forensic Medicine College, Nursing College, Graduate School, Humanities and Social Sciences College, Continuing Education College (Vocational and Technical College), Management College, Stomatology College, Marxism College, International Education College, Anesthesia College, Medical Imaging College and so on.
