Generally speaking, compared with the Renaissance, the Reformation had a far-reaching impact on European education. Although Protestant education still retains the prominent position of religion in education and still regards knowledge, morality and religious piety as the basic requirements of education, its educational purpose is mainly to publicize Protestant teachings. However, their educational thought and practice conformed to the general requirements of the society at that time, promoted the popularization of education, laid the foundation for the educational system of modern capitalist countries, and had positive significance in the history of educational development.
