2. Self-discipline refers to changing passivity into initiative through one's own requirements without on-site supervision; Self-discipline comes from the fifteenth poem of Xi Gaoye Ci by Su Zhe. We pretend to be respectful, use statutes to exercise self-discipline, promote prudence and integrity, and cultivate merits with wisdom. Heteronomy refers to the involuntary restraint, inspection and supervision of others.
3. Civilized etiquette depends on both self-discipline and heteronomy. The reasons why self-discipline is more important than heteronomy are as follows:
(1) Decreased human resources
The cultivation of good manners can reduce the number of people who enforce other laws. For example, if students are self-disciplined, there is no need for students to stand at the school gate every morning and remind them repeatedly, emphasizing that the school rules stipulate that breakfast cannot be brought into the teaching area.
(2) Civilized behavior is not equal to civilized habits.
Heteronomy produces civilized behavior, while self-discipline produces civilized habits. Heteronomy can promote civilized behavior, but in the process of transforming civilized behavior into civilized habits, self-discipline is the first. As we all know, civilized behavior can be called civilized behavior, but civilized behavior can never be equated with civilized behavior. It is a civilized habit to restrain others involuntarily, such as giving up your seat on the bus and greeting your elders.
(3) The cultivation of civilized etiquette is not a one-off event, with self-discipline as the main factor and heteronomy as the supplement.
Self-discipline is the carrier of heteronomy. Without self-discipline, there will be no object and the original meaning will not be enhanced. For example, many China people go to work in foreign countries now, but why are the words "Please don't spit and litter" written in Chinese characters in many conspicuous places in foreign countries? It is precisely because the self-discipline of China people is extremely low.
(4) It is of far-reaching significance to develop the habit of self-discipline.
In any case, the most important thing for a person is to grasp that it is unrealistic to always rely on others. The supervision of others must be limited in fact and cannot be supervised anytime and anywhere. Therefore, the key to a person's quality and moral cultivation lies in self-discipline.
