Learning English naturally requires understanding and speaking English, so oral English is very important. The goal of English teaching in primary schools is to make primary school students understand and speak simple English, so as to lay a good foundation for English learning in middle schools.
So, how to teach primary school students to learn English well? In years of practice, I have explored some effective teaching methods.
First, tell the story of China and learn English words.
Because children in China, especially children in rural areas, first came into contact with and learned Chinese as their mother tongue, and later came into contact with English, Chinese was deeply rooted in their brains, and they knew many stories about China. Based on this, I link English with Chinese in primary school English teaching, so as to reduce students' fear of difficulties, improve students' interest in learning English and strengthen students' memory. For example, when I was learning the words "monkey" and "elephant", I first told a short story about the Monkey King in the Journey to the West, saying that the Monkey King was a monkey. Or tell a story about a blind man touching an elephant, so that students can remember the word elephant. For another example, when learning the word "police", I will tell students a story about the police catching bad guys, so that students can remember the words "police" and "policewoman". When telling a story, I will write related words on the blackboard, so that students can have an intuitive impression of the words. Of course, telling stories is just a means. By this means, the teaching goal of letting students read, say and remember these words is achieved.
Second, help students learn English by combining pictures or objects.
Primary school students have intuitive thinking and underdeveloped abstract thinking ability. In order to let primary school students directly associate English with objects, I often use pictures in the teaching process, and sometimes even move objects to the podium. What is common in students' daily life, just give students the necessary tips; Something unfamiliar, I try to find relevant pictures; I was not afraid of trouble, so I moved the object into the classroom so that the students could see it clearly and carefully. For example, when studying "computer is your friend", I will take the students to the audio-visual classroom, let them have a look and touch the computer screen, mouse and keyboard, so that students can have an intuitive impression of the computer, monitor, mouse and keyboard, so that teachers can easily teach and students can easily learn.
Third, teach primary school students to learn to sing English songs.
Music has a certain rhythm and is catchy to sing. It is a universal "language", and most students like singing. Based on this understanding, I actively teach primary school students to sing English songs, especially the songs in the supporting English tapes. For example, when learning letters, I teach primary school students to sing the song My A B C (my letters). In repeated singing, the students easily mastered the English letters. In English textbooks, more than 50% of the texts contain English songs. As long as students are repeatedly taught to sing, it will be of great benefit to primary school students in learning English.
Fourth, ask questions in English and ask students to answer in English, so as to realize the interaction between "listening" and "speaking".
The purpose of learning English is to make students understand and speak English. So asking questions in English and asking students to answer them not only trains students' listening ability, but also trains students' oral English communication ability. In this interactive teaching process of "listening" and "speaking", students not only master English knowledge, improve their English ability, but also increase their interest and confidence in learning English. It should be noted that this kind of "question" and "answer" must not only be attended by students with strong oral English, but must be attended by students with weak oral English as much as possible, so that students with strong oral English can play an exemplary role. In this way, all students have equal opportunities to practice and learn, and jointly improve their interest and confidence in learning spoken English.
Let the students ask and answer each other.
In the eyes of most primary school students, the teacher is high above the ground, the commander, the commander and the authority who can't communicate with him, fearing that the teacher will become the general psychology of many primary school students. In order to help them overcome this fear and bypass the psychological barrier of being afraid to talk to the teacher and answer the teacher's questions, sometimes, after the presentation, I will assign dialogue tasks to each group leader or deskmate, and then walk out of the classroom and stand in the corridor by myself, so that students can learn from each other in a relaxed atmosphere, without authoritative psychological pressure and fear of making mistakes.
Ask the students to retell the story in the text.
English texts in primary schools are mostly short stories. In order to consolidate and improve the learning results, I will let students retell the stories in the text, and sometimes even let students with strong oral English stand on the podium to demonstrate the retelling of the text to the following students, so that they can create the scenes and plots of the story like telling stories. After the demonstration, I sometimes ask them to retell the text in the form of stories in the form of deskmates. Years of practice have proved that this teaching method of retelling texts by telling stories is effective.
Let students learn English in games and competitions.
It is the nature of primary school students to like games. We might as well entertain and educate students to learn English through games. Like learning what he is. What does he do? ) Once in class, I wrote the words of doctor (doctor), nurse (nurse), soldier (soldier), teacher (teacher), pupil (pupil), fireman (fireman), policeman (policeman) and other occupations on a big card and stuck them on the clothes behind the students, so that one student could ask questions and another student could answer them. Then exchange questions and answers with each other. In this kind of games and competitions, students often make great efforts to memorize words in their hearts in order to show their "outstanding" performance, and the learning effect is very good.
I have been teaching English in primary school for four years since the new experimental textbook was introduced in our school. In four years of teaching exploration, I summarized the above effective teaching methods. These methods seem simple and everyone understands them. In fact, if you don't have a passion for education, a sense of responsibility for your work and care for your students, you can't do it at all. Even if you do it once or twice, you can't stick to it.
