In the Song Dynasty, Yishan had a private school. In Qing Dynasty, the old school of Yishan included Xing Yan Academy and Qin Renshe. In the spring of Guangxu thirty-two years (1906), chenchen, a local student, founded a public Yishan primary school in Pingyang County, Wenzhou, with 6 teachers and 66 students in 5 classes.
