The University of Forestry and Technology is a university jointly founded by the central government and local governments, with Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the main management bridge. The school originated from Guilin Geological School, which was established by the former Guangxi Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, it was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology on 1978, Guilin Institute of Technology on 1993, and Guilin University of Technology in 2009.
