How to Give Full Play to the Educational Function of School Library
Yan Dejuan, Dongpo Primary School, Chancheng District, Foshan

Library is the ocean of knowledge and the cradle of cultivating all kinds of talents. UNESCO's Declaration on Libraries in Primary and Secondary Schools points out: "Libraries in primary and secondary schools are an indispensable cause to ensure that teenagers and children receive effective education in schools". An excellent library is the basic condition to ensure the educational achievements of the school. The construction of primary and secondary school libraries is an integral part of the construction of primary and secondary schools. As an institution of school education, teaching and scientific research services, primary and secondary school libraries have been responsible for collecting, sorting, storing and delivering books and periodicals, and directly providing reading services for teachers and students.

With the rapid development of China's economy, great changes have taken place in the growth environment of primary and secondary school students. Although great achievements have been made in the reform of quality education in primary and secondary schools, in fact, students still have a heavy academic burden, with more courses, more counseling, more homework and more exams. Therefore, the biggest problem we encounter in the construction and management of primary and secondary school libraries is that students will feel relaxed after completing the tasks assigned by the school and returning to the land of film and television "fast food culture". Children increasingly feel that reading is a very boring thing, which is far less exciting and vivid than the video world, resulting in a very small number of children reading after class, which greatly reduces students' reading ability and interest. How can we build a pure land for children in such an impetuous social atmosphere and pull them back from the "fast food culture" to the "sea of books"? Therefore, it is increasingly important and urgent to give full play to the educational function of primary and secondary school libraries. It has become an increasingly urgent task and unshirkable responsibility for primary and secondary school libraries to guide primary and secondary school students to make full use of books and periodicals, to guide them to choose and read books well, and to cultivate their reading interests and habits. On this issue, I want to talk about some practices of our school from these aspects.

First, decorate the library and create a good educational environment.

Creating a good library environment is a problem that cannot be ignored in the construction of primary and secondary schools' libraries.

A link. The school library should create a quiet and comfortable reading environment for students, so that they can read in a happy and relaxed mood. Library environment includes external environment and internal environment. The external environment mainly refers to the architecture and appearance of the museum. For example, the interior should be neat and elegant, the layout should be enlightening, the books and periodicals should be placed neatly, and the function of hidden education should be brought into play. Open a publicity window and a reader's garden, publicize and show the customs and habits of all ethnic groups in the country to students, and understand the latest national conditions of the country, which is ideological, knowledgeable, educational and appreciative. Let students feel the beautiful external environment of the library here and fully enjoy the cultural atmosphere provided by a knowledge hall. The internal environment is reflected in the fact that library teachers should influence students with morality and sentiment, with sincerity and enthusiasm, with knowledge and mental outlook, and set an example for students everywhere. The organic combination of the external environment and the internal environment of the library makes the whole coordination, forms a good quality education atmosphere, and enables students to be infected and edified anytime and anywhere.

Second, carry out diversified reading activities.

Our school arranges reading classes in the library and tries to ensure that each class has one reading class every week. In reading class, teachers can guide students to make reading cards, write reading notes, record their own reading experiences, introduce reading knowledge, recommend celebrity reading methods, and help students choose reading methods that suit them. After reading class, teachers and students can occupy the amateur cultural position by carrying out healthy and beneficial reading activities, and carry out some meaningful activities according to the characteristics of school education and teachers' hobbies, so as to lead teachers and students' hobbies in their spare time to reading. You can also hire Chinese teachers to give literature lectures, and you can also improve students' reading interest through reading clubs and guide them on the right track. Pay attention to cultivating extracurricular reading activists, set up reading interest groups in primary schools, and carry out reading exchange activities in middle schools in the form of "literature club", "book club" and "book review group". And use the influence and appeal of the reading group to organize reading competitions among students. Every middle school should hold at least 1 reading contest or intellectual trip every semester, organize and mobilize more students to participate, and set off a learning upsurge of "reading well" and "reading well".

Third, group by age to meet the reading needs of students of different ages and types.

Reading needs change with age. In the primary school stage, children's knowledge-seeking is emotional and random; The junior middle school stage is a period of children's transition to youth. Independence and dependence, consciousness and naivety appear alternately, which has the dual characteristics of youth and children. This requires us to adopt the methods of grouping by age, group counseling and key recommendation. First, various types and levels of recommended books can be selected and provided through the methods of recommending books (such as compiling loose-leaf books, publishing blackboard newspapers, broadcasting and propaganda, etc.). ) to facilitate students to find reading paths. The second is to set up reading classes at different stages in primary and secondary schools, and systematically introduce the use of book information and reading knowledge by means of special lectures and fixed periods. Reading good books after class can help students cultivate good moral character, broaden their horizons, cultivate their sentiments, expand their knowledge, strengthen the integration of knowledge and develop their intelligence. Four, timely publicity and recommendation of new books.

According to the requirements of the new curriculum or the actual needs of teaching, the academic affairs office of the school makes clear the reading lists of students of all grades, and teachers recommend the collected books, required books and newly purchased books to students. Each middle school library (room) should set up a book publicity column, regularly introduce some excellent books (including quantity, author, work category and characteristics), regularly distribute library publicity materials, open a book publicity column through blackboard newspapers or window, transmit book information, do a good job in reading guidance, and increase the pertinence of borrowing.

Fifth, carry out special holiday reading activities.

Cooperate with various anniversaries, festivals, art festivals, popular science weeks and sports meetings in our school to carry out various special competitions. It is necessary to carry out "reading a book together" in grades or classes, guide students to write their experiences, hold a good reading symposium, and hold a "reading theme class meeting" at least once every semester to exchange and sum up experience.

Sixth, do a good job in the construction of class book supermarkets, book corners and book boxes.

Class book supermarket and book corner (box) are the refinement and extension of school library construction. School grade leaders and class teachers should actively guide and mobilize classmates and parents to carry out book sharing and donation activities. Each teaching class should set up a book supermarket outside the classroom, and at least set up a book corner or a book box, mainly books donated temporarily by students, teachers and parents. The number of books in the book corner (box) should reach more than 0.2 of the number of students in the 65438+ class. It is necessary to strengthen the registration and lending management of books in the book corner (box), school circulation, class circulation, individual ownership, collective reading and ready-to-use, and update at any time, so as to realize the close service of book resources.

Extend the opening hours of the library.

It takes teachers a lot of time to cultivate students' extracurricular reading habits. Dongpo primary school library originally stipulated that each class can borrow books one day a week, and each class can borrow one book at a time. Students can't borrow books in winter and summer vacations, but go home to read books. However, in the process of guiding students to read, students report that there is too little extra-curricular reading time, and hope that the library will extend the borrowing time. In view of the heavy academic burden of students, the school has adjusted and optimized the curriculum to ensure students' extracurricular reading time as much as possible. An effective way is to set up an independent extracurricular reading class or extracurricular reading time in the school curriculum, two classes a week, about two hours. In this way, it can not only ensure students' extracurricular reading to assist courses or develop their interests, but also promote the library to extend its opening hours appropriately and ensure students have more time to borrow books from the library. Carry out holiday lending, do a good job of allowing students to borrow books and go home to read, meet the extracurricular reading needs of students during holidays, improve the utilization rate of books, give full play to the advantages of collections, and promote the educational function.

Eight, cultivate students' good reading habits and lifelong learning awareness.

Introducing the library's collection, catalogue usage and borrowing procedures to students can help them cultivate and master their own methods of independently searching, selecting and borrowing books, and help them learn to analyze and compare similar books and periodicals, so as to select excellent books and periodicals. At the same time, we can find the knowledge points we need purposefully according to our learning needs and personal hobbies, so as to cultivate the ability to find knowledge independently-self-study. Cultivating students' correct reading concept and scientific reading methods can expand the benefits of reading, promote the exchange of ideas, and benefit students for life in their future reading life.

"Books are the ladder of human progress", books are the source of strength and the ocean of knowledge, and the library is the place to manage and preserve this ocean. I hope every school can give full play to the educational function of primary and secondary school libraries and cultivate our high-quality talents in the new century. Reference [1] Yu Xiaohong.
