Tang graduated from the history department of Nanjing University. Engaged in social and economic history of China for a long time (16-the first half of the 20th century). He is currently a professor at the School of Humanities of Shanghai Normal University, the leader of the doctoral program in modern and contemporary history in China, the leader of key disciplines of Shanghai Education Commission, the director of China Modern Society Research Center of Shanghai Normal University, and a member of the academic committee of Shanghai Normal University. He used to be director of local history research office of Suzhou University, doctoral supervisor, member of academic committee of Suzhou University, and deputy director of academic committee of Social College. He used to be a visiting researcher at Tohoku University of Culture in Japan and a researcher at the History Department of Anhui Normal University. Vice President of China Society of Social History and Director of Jiangsu Society of History. Member of the expert group of Jiangsu province philosophy and social science research "Ninth Five-Year Plan". 1997 was hired by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a member of the exchange evaluation expert group for doctoral and master's degree programs. He has given lectures and cooperated in research at Tokyo University, Dadong Culture University, Taiwan Province Provincial University and Taiwan Academia Sinica.
