What does Baohua mean?
Among the traditional auspicious patterns in China, there are many patterns shaped by religious elements, among which treasure flowers are one. Treasure flowers are also called treasure fairy flowers and treasure lotus flowers. The so-called "Bao Xiang" is a respectful name for the Buddha statue, while Bao Xiang Hua is an ideal flower pattern full of all beautiful images such as purity, sacredness and dignity. That is to say, although the treasure flower depicts flowers, it does not refer to a single flower pattern. It is a pattern after artistic processing, beautiful as a flower, but it doesn't really exist.

The collection of precious flowers has the characteristics of lotus, peony, chrysanthemum and other flowers. In the Mediterranean region, there are also patterns of honeysuckle and rolled grass, and in Central Asia, there are also grapes and pomegranates. They are elegant and gorgeous, and they were the most popular in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. They are widely used in architecture, gold and silver wares, textiles, porcelain, bronze mirrors and many other fields, creating a magnificent atmosphere in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

Baohua occupies a place in the art history of China. Although not as long ago as ancient times, it was born with the introduction of Buddhism into China, so it is regarded as a major symbol of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. More importantly, its artistic style has undergone innovative changes in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. In the early Tang Dynasty, the petals of baohua pattern evolved from the combination of the mother petals of lotus and other patterns. Compared with the treasure flower in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it is relatively simple, and it can be intuitively seen that it was born out of the "Lotus Metaplasia" of Buddhism, symbolizing the idea of being far from the secular and pure.

However, during the Zhenguan period in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the artistic style of Baoxianghua changed greatly, and its decorative meaning became stronger and stronger. Besides lotus, it also has the characteristics of peony. The multi-level arrangement of petals, from realism to abstraction, is becoming more and more gorgeous and atmospheric, and various patterns are freely combined and varied. At this time, there is no obvious lotus flower, and its decorative change has reached its peak, gorgeous and solemn, completely getting rid of religious meaning, blending into the secular world, becoming the flower of the masses, and having more meanings symbolizing good luck and happiness.
