Zunyi Medical College is the first medical undergraduate college founded by China after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. It is a university jointly established by the National Health and Wellness Committee and the People's Government of Guizhou Province, a pilot university of excellent doctoral education and training program, and a domestic first-class discipline construction university in Guizhou Province, and has been selected as a basic capacity-building project for universities in the central and western regions.

The school was founded in 1947, formerly known as Kanto Medical College. 1949 Kanto Medical College was merged into Dalian University and renamed Dalian University Medical College. 1950 Dalian University was abolished and Dalian Medical College became independent. 1969, in order to support the "third-line construction", the school moved south to Zunyi and changed its name to Zunyi Medical College. 20 18 was renamed Zunyi Medical College.
