"Things on land, the final destination of deposition is the ocean. The ocean is a rich carrier, which contains many stories and scientific knowledge, but we are not so familiar with the ocean, because we often regard the land as our basic necessities. Zhao is a teacher of Kaohsiung National Education Guidance Group and a founding member of course center Navigator Team of Kaohsiung Ocean Education. For him, marine education is like finding a treasure in another territory, full of challenges, but not cowardice.
Course center is the marine education center of Kaohsiung City, located in Qianzhen Junior High School near the harbor. Under the recommendation of the head of the junior high school education department of Kaohsiung City Education Bureau, the former junior high school principal Liang found more than 20 teachers with the same passion in the National Education Counseling Group, spanning different fields and compatible with kindergarten, primary school, junior high school and senior high school teachers, forming a navigator team, developing marine education courses and jointly creating the face of this course in Kaohsiung City.
As an island surrounded by the sea, Taiwan Province Province has as rich imagination of the sea as of the land, but we seldom explore it since childhood. Marine education in a narrow sense studies everything that happens outside land and below sea level; However, marine education in a broad sense can be extended to water resources in rivers and lakes, and even marine-related industrial chains. The marine education in Kaohsiung City has changed the environmental background from what may happen on land to the ocean, starting from the four major axes of society, culture, science and resources, hoping to cover the whole people and create an educational orientation with the ocean as the story background.
The task of the navigator team is to develop marine education courses, and design marine courses with eight themes: industrial economy, biodiversity, scientific exploration, environmental thinking, sports and leisure, artistic life, cultural history and sustainable development. The course is structured by small units, and made into a 45-minute ocean study package, which is put on the website of this course in Kaohsiung City for reference by teachers at all levels.
The navigator team regularly conducts research and development of teacher empowerment and marine education courses to provide easy-to-use course materials for teachers at all levels. Liang provides
Liang mentioned that the curriculum modules are presented in units, rather than a series of linear courses. I hope that teachers can use flexible study time to cultivate children's concepts and literacy about the ocean without delaying the progress of other courses. Take the original town junior high school as an example. In the 18-week class meeting course, in addition to class affairs and discussions with the center, the teacher specially used six weeks to adapt the study package of the navigator team, so that children could have a deeper understanding of the ocean through board games, movies and customs-breaking activities.
"We mainly sort out these things and make an integration so that these materials can be used by everyone. We define the course as the basic version, even if the teacher doesn't know much about the ocean, he is not afraid of teaching badly. Liang Huaqiao shared that the navigator team hopes to organize the original broken concept of ocean courses into a situational material package that meets the abilities of children of all ages. With the help of course templates, teachers can simply get started and let children expand their horizons in the ocean.
Not only children living near the harbor, but also navigators pay special attention to the universality of courses in different regions when developing courses. In addition to Qianzhen and Yancheng, children who live in Namaxia, Taoyuan and Maolin districts are not close to the ocean, but they also have access to marine education in their lives and classes.
In order to broaden the horizon of marine education, Voyager team specially went to Penghu Maritime and Fishery Vocational School to learn more about navigation, marine engineering and ocean. Liang provides
In addition to course center, Kaohsiung Ocean Education Center, the former junior high school was awarded the status of "Kaohsiung Regional Vocational Exploration and Experience Demonstration Center" in March this year.
"After realizing the three basic goals of loving the sea, knowing the sea and loving the sea, we will expand our professional contacts in the part of' using the sea'. Around the large space of several classrooms in the professional exploration center, Liang Huaqiao enthusiastically introduced the spoils she made a special trip to large and small fishing ports: sextant, compass, underwater detection instruments, buoys, fishing nets, and even a ceremony to congratulate large ships on launching. She said with a smile that she hopes to build a simulation cabin, so that children have the opportunity to see the instruments and equipment with their own eyes, enhance their interest and understand the close relationship between the ocean and life.
Kaohsiung Regional Vocational Exploration and Experience Demonstration Center, as an extension of course center's marine education, is closely related to skills education exploration and curriculum development. In order to enrich the course of navigation education, Qian went to Penghu Fishing Vocational School to study, especially with the navigator team. They followed the teachers of professional aquatic products group and maritime affairs group to visit and introduce, and then discussed together, and formulated a study package integrating marine courses and career exploration.
At the same time, she also invited the Taiwan Province Ocean Education Center of the National Ocean University of Taiwan Province to train Voyager's team as "teachers of marine career" in the south, so that these teachers with ideals and enthusiasm can not only develop courses, but also share their marine knowledge and related route development with the children in the front line. Yang Zhixiong also mentioned that Kaohsiung Vocational Exploration and Experience Demonstration Center can serve as a bridge between high schools and middle schools. In the future, when children are faced with the choice of further studies, in addition to the popular catering department, they can also think of aquatic products and maritime related departments.
Kaohsiung Regional Vocational Exploration and Experience Demonstration Center has also developed various marine application courses based on Qianzhen Junior High School, so that children can not only gain knowledge, but also have the opportunity to practice. Liang provides
"If a child lives in a small town, his world may only go to Big Ruger in his dream time. What we can do is to write down a lot of points, and children will connect these points with their own experiences and turn them into a face to broaden their horizons. In the journey of marine education, the navigator team is like a fisherman with boiling blood, capturing all the rich marine knowledge and activities, hoping to get a bumper harvest at the moment when the fishing net is put away. Their future goal is not only the growth of children in coastal areas, but also to reach teachers and children in nearby mountain schools, start from the rivers and lakes around them, and then have the opportunity to explore the ocean together.
"In the last generation, we spent a lot of time hoping to fly into space. I think this century is to find a world in the ocean. The knowledge in the world is all-encompassing, and there is no end to learning. Navigator team specialty spans different fields, and teaching also covers different age groups. Cultivate the connotation of marine education in campus life from an early age. Liang believes that osmosis may have an impact on children in Kaohsiung.
For navigators, marine education is not a phased task, but a long and endless waterway. In Kaohsiung, the "Ocean Capital", navigators are looking forward to exploring more unknowns through storms and enjoying the sea together.
In order to give children better marine education opportunities, the enthusiastic teachers of Voyager always spare no effort to take extra time to participate in learning and increase their energy. Liang provides
