The Outline of Calligraphy Education for Primary and Secondary Schools issued by the Ministry of Education requires that from the spring of 20 13, teaching and research departments at all levels must include calligraphy education in the scope of teaching and research, and include calligraphy curriculum in the special content of education supervision. However, in practice, due to various reasons, such as: lack of calligraphy teachers, calligraphy as a non-examination subject, ranking of examination results and so on, calligraphy classes in most schools are replaced by head teachers, Chinese teachers or some teachers of music, sports and beauty, so at present most schools take the form of calligraphy classes. Calligraphy classes are only set up to cope with superior inspections.
