Connotation and function of love in education
The connotation of love in education, that is, kindness in ethical sense, is an ethical principle closely related to justice, because if we get rid of love and respect for others, we can't really realize justice. As the moral philosopher Frankner said, "Kindness may not be necessary, but it is desirable." Because of this, whether in the East (the three virtues of Confucianism-wisdom, benevolence and courage) or in the West (the three theological virtues of Christianity-faith, hope and love), it is listed as one of the core ethical categories.

Kindness mainly means kindness and charity in Chinese. It has been elaborated in Confucian ethics. As can be seen from historical data, the concept of benevolence initially has the characteristics of blood relatives' love, from near to far, and has developed into a comprehensive virtue covering the whole world. Mencius once vividly stated that "the old are old, the young are few, and the young are few". Dong Zhongshu, a thinker in Han Dynasty, further put forward that "benevolence without wisdom, love without excess". Therefore, it adds a new meaning to kindness-love for people should be wise, strategic and standardized.

Western scholars' explanation of kindness is similar to that of China thinkers. As one of the three theological virtues (faith, hope and love), religious ethicists emphasize the virtue of forgiveness: as a responsibility, kindness is undoubtedly a "responsibility beyond requirements", justice only requires ensuring that each other's rights and interests are treated fairly, while kindness goes beyond this standard and does more. Therefore, kindness is a virtue principle that transcends justice in a sense, and more is giving.

To sum up, we can understand that kindness is the ethical spirit and moral principle of love and forgiveness, which has a high degree of rationality and transcendence.
