How do laymen practice dharma?
One day I was chatting with a layman's father. Talking about the lay man, my father said angrily, "Since he became a monk, he has never done housework, only burned incense and kowtowed. If you want to become a Buddha, you will live forever. When we had a problem with him, he ignored us. I don't believe this. Is this how the Buddha teaches people? " I asked, "Didn't he tell you about Buddhism? The father of the lay man replied, "Yes, he said that believing in Buddhism can eliminate disasters and take refuge, and people can go to Elysium after death. After listening to the layman's father's words, I suddenly found that Buddhism has not been accepted by some people, and even thought it was a superstition.

Because Buddhists who practice at home have their own families and careers, it is inevitable to live a secular life. Therefore, a layman cannot but face this reality, and it is inappropriate to regard himself as a monk. Therefore, Buddhists should not only have positive beliefs, but also become a person worthy of closeness and respect if they want to adhere to Buddhist truth and publicize Buddhist theories in secular life. Only in this way can lay people live in harmony and friendship with others, and they can unconsciously teach the truth of Buddhism to the world, which is both self-interested and altruistic. The popularity of Buddhism is just around the corner. So, how can a layman practice Buddhism correctly? Let me talk about some superficial understanding.

First, treat desire correctly. Buddhism guides us to restore the light and wisdom of nature, first of all, we must have less desires. That is, "pure heart and lack of desire, small desire to meet." According to the Buddhist point of view, we can live a pure life without desire, and the wisdom and light that people have can be revealed. However, some laymen have a one-sided understanding of this, thinking that abstinence means no desire, no desire, no desire, and indifference. Therefore, they are indifferent to their own work and career, indifferent to the warmth and coldness of their families, chanting scriptures and worshipping Buddha all day, and completely ignoring family affairs. Because of this, he is regarded by others as a pessimistic and cold freak. As we all know, the original intention of Buddhism to stop people's desires is to stop people's greed, not to give up all pursuits. If all the right ideal goals are regarded as desires, then this is a desire to achieve positive results.

We say that if a householder does nothing all day and lives a life of reaching for food and clothing, this parasitic life itself violates the purpose of Buddhism. Buddha said: people who try to get rid of their troubles must avoid two biased lives. One is a life that cannot overcome selfish desires and pursues excessively; The other is to torture your body and mind unnecessarily and live an ascetic life. Therefore, after believing in Buddhism, you can't blindly pursue extinction and do nothing. There is no contradiction between believing in Buddhism and hard work. In real life, you are a national staff member, and you spend taxpayers' money, so you have to work for taxpayers; If you are a laborer, while you are working hard, you will create more income for your family, make your family harmonious, and at the same time create wealth for society. These are all in line with the truth of Buddhism.

In other words, we can't live a parasitic life in vain. Therefore, Buddhists in China, in particular, should be diligent, brave enough to join the WTO, and their careers are thriving. Besides, some Buddhist monks who become monks do not spend their leisure time on earth. They do morning classes at four or five o'clock every day. After the morning classes, they either worship Buddha, meditate, chant Buddhist scripture, attend ceremonies and do their own spiritual activities. Think about it, getting up so early, working hard and practicing hard, do you call him negative? This kind of behavior is generally not understood or seen, but it is considered negative. Therefore, we Buddhists at home must have ambition and backbone, practice Buddhism seriously, think carefully, distinguish clearly and seek the real Buddhism in a short life.

Second, Buddhists should always keep a normal heart in their lives. Don't think that believing in Buddhism is better than others. On the contrary, people who believe in Buddhism should be more humble. Buddhism, on the one hand, purifies the mind and urges people to abandon selfishness, selfish interests and selfish desires, and treat all sentient beings with a broad mind, treating them as brothers and sisters, and all things are integrated with me. We should respect other people's beliefs and let others understand and believe in Buddhism because of you. Be kind, say good words, do good deeds and be a good person. What if the layman doesn't respect the three treasures, is not merciful and tolerant, doesn't unite and help each other, and is insatiable? How can you be a good layman if you are obsessed with fame and fortune and slander others because of personal grievances? Therefore, this is an important event worth pondering by every layman. A layman should have a high degree of consciousness and always remember the important task of "going to Kuboth and descending all beings".

Third, we should properly handle the relationship between Buddhism and family life. In real family life, every Buddhist should sincerely convert to the Three Treasures, follow the example of Buddha and Bodhisattva, go deep into Buddhist classics, master rich Buddhist knowledge and social knowledge, and combine Buddhism with reality to serve the society and mankind. The focus of householder's purification of the world is to purify the family.

A Buddhist should do the following: 1. Honor your parents. Women honor their parents and in-laws, while men honor their parents and in-laws. Both must be considered.

Husband and wife should respect each other as guests and regard each other as good knowledge to build happiness, so they should respect each other, give in to each other, help each other, understand each other and care about each other.

Treat children like hens with chicks. Buddhists don't agree with China's idea of "raising children to prevent old age". The purpose of Buddhism's love and upbringing for children is not to prevent old age, but to do one's duty, because people's blessings and karma are causal. Parents should teach their children the ethical concept of filial piety, but they can't expect their children to support their parents, otherwise they will become disappointed because of hope and derive endless troubles. All members of the family should do their respective responsibilities and obligations. As far as Buddhism is concerned, family is the basis for spreading Buddhism and benefiting students. The harmony between family members and the success of family education can improve individual quality and thus achieve the goal of purifying society.

Fourth, we must make good relations. It is not difficult for people to avoid the world and practice. The difficult thing is to carry a heavy burden on the earth and still walk on the road of faith. It is necessary to have the ambition of the bodhisattva, the king of earth treasure: "The hell is not empty, and it will not become a Buddha." Vulgarians should love their parents, their wives, their children, their brothers and sisters, and their friends, so that they can develop into loving everyone. Only in this way can the will of the Buddha be passed on to all people, so that human beings can live in harmony forever and never argue. Otherwise, it will only make people feel that people who believe in Buddhism are different from ordinary people and have mental illness.

Because everyone has a family and a career, we have the responsibility to work hard and take care of the people we love. Buddhism stresses filial piety. It is unfilial to disrespect parents, teachers, brothers and parents. Doing things irresponsibly, being insincere to others, not working hard, often getting sick and worrying about yourself every day are all unfilial. The Buddha told us to be filial to our parents and respect our teachers. When we become Buddhas ourselves, we can be kind not only to our parents but also to others.

Therefore, only by being a filial child, a kind father and a qualified husband can your family live in harmony with you and pass on Buddhist knowledge to them. Otherwise, even your family can't get close to you. How can we spread good knowledge? To learn Buddhism, you should think of others in every move, underestimate yourself, sacrifice yourself for others, and don't worry about his life. This is the Buddha.

Fifth, laity must get rid of the idea of quick success and instant benefit. Many lay people don't understand why they believe in Buddhism. After an old woman believed in Buddhism, she kept saying: Amitabha, bless my whole family. My sons and grandchildren are big officials, and they have no worries about food and clothing, and money is piled up into mountains. This is not right. In that case, Buddha can also bless the bad guys. Isn't there such an example? Before the robbers robbed, they made a wish in front of the Buddha: Buddha bless me to rob successfully, and I will burn high incense for you, gild your whole body, and let you enjoy all the splendor. Do you think the Buddha can bless him?

Therefore, the Buddha cannot be regarded as a responsive god. Some lay people don't say that they believe in Buddhism in order to bring good luck to themselves, but in their hearts they are praying for Buddha and Bodhisattva to bless them to succeed and make a fortune. As we all know, Buddha is a lighthouse. If the Buddha gives you a bright road, you can't pray for the Buddha's blessing. If we don't understand the true meaning of Buddhism and make it utilitarian, we simply regard Buddhism as a protector that can eliminate disasters and avoid disasters, and regard Buddhism as a god of wealth that can bring wealth to people, which is no different from superstition.

A layman who believes in Buddhism said to everyone, "It's good to learn Buddhism. Those who don't believe in Buddhism are all little people and idiots. If you believe in Buddhism, your real life will be happy and everything will be as you wish. Read the bible if you have nothing to do, no matter how difficult others are. Run on the runway when you have time, and parents and sons stand aside. In this way, after his death, he can go to heaven in the west. Then he will have food, clothes and a comfortable and leisurely life. They will worship us, too If they dare not support us, it will definitely bring him disaster. " We say that if so, he is a layman, no different from people who don't believe in Buddhism.

In a word, laymen should follow the example of Buddhism, earnestly understand the three treasures of Buddhism, Dharma and Buddhism, learn Buddhism without being fascinated, learn Dharma without being evil, learn Buddhism without being dirty, correctly understand Buddhism, persist in faith, get rid of superstitions, establish righteousness, carry forward Dharma, persistently learn Dharma, confirm Dharma, and constantly realize, so as to reach the supreme state like Buddhism. Don't just learn one or two verses, read one or two mantras, and think that you know Buddhism. As a result, you will do something that is divorced from reality and counterproductive. Buddha, Dharma and Buddha are the teachers of lay people. As students of Sambo, we should respect Sambo to repay teachers' kindness, publicize Buddhism with wisdom, and show the compassion and infinite wisdom of Mahayana Buddhism with the great compassion of Buddha and Bodhisattva.
