Teachers enjoy greater academic freedom, while students take various courses according to their hobbies, choose their own research direction, and engage in scientific research under the guidance of tutors. 1842, the first physics laboratory in Germany was established. A group of scientists once taught in this school and created new theories and disciplines.
Before World War II, Berlin University was an academic center in Europe and even the whole world, and trained 29 Nobel Prize winners with amazing achievements, including Einstein, Max Planck, john von neumann, Hegel and arthur schopenhauer. However, due to historical and political reasons, the once brilliant University of Berlin was not trampled and destroyed by the war ... 1948, the University of Berlin split into two parts, and some teachers and students established the Free University of Berlin in West Berlin controlled by the United States and Britain, while the original University of Berlin was renamed Humboldt University of Berlin in 1949.
In China cultural circle, Berlin University refers to Humboldt University of Berlin before 1948 (such as Berlin University in the novel Fortress Besieged). Later, for a while, the University of Berlin referred to the Free University of Berlin. Today, Humboldt University in Berlin is regarded as the main heir of the old Berlin University at home and abroad. At present, these two "Berlin Universities" are completely independent universities, but they gradually begin to cooperate and integrate in more fields.
