Rousseau also devoted himself to women's education in Emile. Based on the idea of "male chauvinism", he believes that women should obey the authority of their parents and husbands, and they are educated for their husbands' happiness, social activities and comfortable family life. Rousseau asserted that in the "natural state", women depend on people, for example, they are born healthy but weak, gentle and honest in quality, and have a strong sense of shame and inferiority. Therefore, they should be trained in restraint and obedience, so that they can get used to restraint and obedience from an early age; At the same time, there is no need to develop their intelligence or guide them to learn; In order to make them look beautiful and make men think they are cute, we should make them love dressing up, know how to dress up and learn something related to dressing up, such as lace, landscape painting and embroidery. Women's behavior should be bound by public opinion, and what they believe depends entirely on others. All girls should believe in the religion of her mother, and all women should believe in the religion of her husband. In this way, the trained women have limited knowledge and no independent judgment ability, but they can obey the will of others everywhere. This is actually the so-called "wife and mother type". Although Rousseau's whole naturalistic educational thought occupies an important position in the history of educational development, and although Rousseau advocates the use of some examples and exemplary educational methods when discussing some specific educational thoughts in women's education, Rousseau's view on women's education typically reflects his patriarchal thoughts on the status and role of women, which is almost completely opposite to the basic spirit of his natural educational thoughts. This bourgeois viewpoint and the influence of feudalism undoubtedly caused more deficiencies and criticisms on his whole educational thought.
