The earliest systematic and complete monograph on family education in ancient China was Family Instructions of Yan Family.

Yan Jiaxun is the first family instruction with rich content and grand system in the history of the Chinese nation, and it is also a classic work of Chinese studies. The author Yan Zhitui was a famous writer and educator in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

This book was written after Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty destroyed the State of Chen and before Yang Di ascended the throne (about the end of 6th century AD).
