The origin of the student union
Originated from Tsinghua University, it was born in the torrent of patriotism, democracy and science during the May 4th Movement. A student organization established by students from middle schools and institutions of higher learning in China was originally called student self-government. It is an organization for students' self-management and self-education, a melting pot for students to learn democratic management and exercise, and a right-hand man for school education. After the founding of New China, it was renamed the Student Union.
The student union is the student's own mass organization. All students in China are members of the Student Union, regardless of nationality, gender or religious belief. With the aim of serving students wholeheartedly, the student union will play a role as a bridge and link between the party and government of the school and the students. With the guidance and help of party organizations and youth league organizations, it will carry out its work in accordance with laws, school rules and regulations and their respective articles of association.
