Southwest University for Nationalities is a public full-time ordinary institution of higher learning directly under the central ministries. It is headed by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and is a school jointly established by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government.
