Zhang Zhidong, known as Zhang Xiangshuai, is an old man holding ice and a Nanpi man. He is the founder of Sanjiang Normal School, the predecessor of Southeast University and the originator of China Higher Normal School. Zhang Zhidong, the founder of China Kindergarten, reformed the academy, promoted learning and advocated study tour, which formed a relatively complete modern education system in three towns of Wuhan, including Hankou. Traditional academy teaching focuses on learning Confucian classics. Zhang Zhidong devoted himself to the reform of academies, and made major adjustments to the courses of Jianghan Academy, Jingxin Academy and Huhu Academy successively, each with its own emphasis, with the aim of "being genuine and practical".
