The school was founded by the older generation proletarian revolutionist and linguist Wu Yu 1927, merged with the private Jianhua Middle School founded by Mr. Zhang Lan in 1950, and was officially named Nanchong Senior Middle School in Sichuan Province by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government in 1952.
