Origin of place names: "Baiyun" is a Chinese transliteration of Mongolian "Baiyin" ("Bayin" and "Bayan"); "Ebo" is another Chinese transliteration of Mongolian "Aobao"; Baiyun Obo is also called "Baiyun Bo Gu" in Mongolian and "Fushan" in Chinese.
In May, 20021year, according to the results of the seventh national census, the population of Baiyunebo mining area was 22,700, ranking 10 in the population ranking of counties and districts in Baotou, 102 in the population ranking of counties and districts in Inner Mongolia and 2,833 in the population ranking of counties and districts in China.
On February 20 16, Baiyun obo mining area was included in the list of counties (cities, districts) with basically balanced development of compulsory education in China in 20 15.

Baiyun ebo office was established in 1955, and Baiyun ebo town (flag county level) was established in 1958, which was placed under the jurisdiction of Baotou city in August.
