Why is Stilwell a progressive education activist?
Stilwell is also a progressive education activist. From 1827 to 1866, he founded and edited the rheinland primary school education and teaching magazine, and published hundreds of articles in the magazine. These articles introduced Pestalozzi and others' democratic education thoughts and criticized the problems existing in Germany at that time. He is also a journalist and a member of the Prussian Parliament. He attended a large number of teachers' meetings and delivered a speech, calling on the government to improve teachers' economic and social status and promote their democratic education thoughts. From 1832 to 184 1, he also founded four educational groups in Berlin to study and spread advanced and democratic educational ideas.
