The policy of adding points to the college entrance examination for ethnic minorities
As we all know, most ethnic minorities live in remote areas with harsh environmental conditions, and their educational resources are relatively backward compared with ordinary areas, and they are certainly not as good as urban candidates in learning. Because minority candidates can't receive high-quality education, it is definitely unfair to compete with ordinary candidates. Candidates in minority areas will complain after a long time. Therefore, the implementation of the policy of extra points for ethnic minorities, on the one hand, can reflect the equality between ethnic groups, strengthen national unity, and is conducive to the long-term stability of society.

Generally speaking, there are two major trends in local policy adjustment:

First, strictly implement the "three unifications" such as three-year complete household registration, three-year complete student status and three-year practical study experience, and severely crack down on all kinds of "free riders" such as "changing minority identity" and "college entrance examination immigration";

Second, adjust the application scope of bonus points to counties, townships and even villages to ensure that bonus points really play a role in ethnic areas with large educational gaps.

The original intention of adding points to the college entrance examination for ethnic minorities is to implement the national ethnic policy, give appropriate compensation to areas with relatively backward education level, and promote educational equity and social equity. For students studying in relatively developed areas, they can get higher scores while enjoying a good education. Some students even change their nationality in order to get extra points for the college entrance examination. This does not conform to the principle of educational equity, nor does it conform to the new requirements of the current state for the policy of adding points to the general college entrance examination.

Starting from the college entrance examination in 2023, the policy of extra points for candidates in "two states and five counties" in Gansu and those in ethnic minority areas has been adjusted consistently, and the extra points have been unified to 20 points, which is applicable to all colleges and universities in China. The bonus points for candidates from ethnic townships (towns) who are not "two states and five counties" will eventually be cancelled in 2029. During the period, minority candidates and long-term Han candidates who meet the conditions of extra points must meet the conditions of "three unifications" from 2023 to 2028.

In 2020, there will be a major reform in adding points to the college entrance examination for ethnic minorities.

Last year, many minority college entrance examination bonus items have undergone great changes. Not only have four provinces announced that they will gradually cancel the bonus points in the future, but Hunan, Hainan, Guangxi and other places have also made more detailed adjustments to the bonus points for ethnic minorities.
