I've always been interested in genderless education. I recently read a book, Parenting Beyond Pink &; Blue ",and there are some new gains. The biggest theme of the book is that the significance of degenization education is not to break the gender stereotype itself, but to help children improve their personal cognitive, social and emotional abilities as much as possible.
First of all, after studying a large number of papers on gender studies, the author found that the real differences between boys and girls are only concentrated in the following aspects: the ability to control impulses, confidence and interest in mathematics, the time to start talking, figure, post-adolescent depression, aggression and game mode. However, these differences can't have any decisive influence on a certain gender in the long run, and there are still too many interferences from personal factors.
In fact, in the mega-analysis, 1 10,000 samples and 1 24 possible gender differences, 78% of which were proved to be completely absent or weakly present. Science tells us that if you want to know a person, telling you a person's gender is not much more than tossing a coin. Yes, everyone is so different and has their own personality and characteristics. All these differences have created a diversified world. That's why I like to deal with different people. If you really want to get to know a person better, you won't start with something between his legs, will you? !
The book tells an extreme example: there is a child named Storm in Canada. TA's parents have never revealed to the outside world or even other family members whether the storm is a boy or a girl. They intend to keep TA from being influenced by gender prejudice. I don't think I will do this to my child, because I still hope that she can have friends, choose her favorite skirt and enjoy all the fun of being a girl.
It is also mentioned in the book that an interesting phenomenon is that parents of children with two sexes at home tend to exaggerate their gender stereotypes, which will invisibly threaten their children, thus leading to their lack of self-confidence and inability to fully display their instincts on the court. If I have a son in the future, I will pay special attention to this aspect, let my daughter help weed and paint the walls, and my son help cook and clean; Let the daughter watch the football game and the son watch the America's next top model contest (just kidding, it's better for children not to watch the reality show of the Appearance Association, and their hands are in danger).
In fact, even in American society, gender is not so equal. Just look at Patricia's call for equal pay for equal work for actors and actresses at the Oscar, and you will know that unfairness is everywhere. But I think that as parents, what we can do is to create a "pollution-free" environment for our children as much as possible, at least in our family. Mom and dad share family responsibilities, love and respect each other, respect the existence of children as individuals, and help TA develop its talents to the greatest extent. After all, the best education for children is "Mom and Dad love each other very much"!
