According to the data of Education Consulting Network, engineers from the Northwest Pacific National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy have developed a chemical process for producing crude oil, and this process is sustainable. Through experiments, the researchers analyzed the green seaweed paste like thick pea soup, which produced gasoline in a few minutes. Now this crude oil technology has been licensed to Genifuel Biofuel Company in Utah, which is building a pilot plant to produce this new fuel on a large scale.

Algae is a primitive and ancient lower organism. Algae have simple structure, no differentiation of roots, stems and leaves, and most of them are single cells, colonies or multicellular phyllodes. For example, Chlorella is a single cell, Volvariella volvacea belongs to a group, and kelp is a thallus. Algae contain photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophyll, which can carry out photosynthesis and belong to autotrophs.
