Donghua University is a national "2 1 1 project" and a national "double-class" construction university directly under the Ministry of Education. Adhering to the motto of "respect for morality, erudition, determination and pragmatism", the school has developed into a multi-disciplinary and distinctive high-level university.
The history of the school can be traced back to the Textile Printing and Dyeing Institute founded by industrialist Zhang Jian in 19 12. Founded in 195 1, it was named East China Institute of Textile Technology. 1960, identified as a national key university by the Ministry of Education. 198 1 year, becoming one of the first universities in China with the right to award doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees.
1985, renamed China Textile University. 1998 was identified as a key institution of higher learning under the national "2 1 1 project". 1999, renamed Donghua University. 20 17 was selected as a national "double-first-class" construction university with textile science and engineering as its construction discipline. In 2022, the second round of "double first-class" construction disciplines added materials science and engineering disciplines.
The school is located in Shanghai, China, with Songjiang Campus, Yan 'an Road Campus and Xinhua Road Campus, covering an area of nearly 2,000 mu, with a total construction area of over 860,000 square meters. The school is "Shanghai Garden Unit" and "Shanghai Civilized Campus". Songjiang Campus is a national water conservancy scenic spot.

There are two national "double first-class" construction disciplines. 1 the peak discipline of Shanghai universities. Textile science and engineering maintain a leading position in China. Seven disciplines, including chemistry, engineering, mathematics, materials science, computer science, environmental science and ecology, biology and biochemistry, rank in the top of ESI 1‰, among which materials science ranks in the top 1‰.
The school has 1 national key laboratory, 1 national engineering technology research center, 22 provincial and ministerial key scientific research platforms, 2 national talent introduction bases and national university science park.
