Zibo University, the first comprehensive local undergraduate college in Shandong Province, was abolished in 2002. This college is a comprehensive undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education in April 1998. It was formed by the merger of Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry, Zibo University, Zibo Teachers College, Zibo Staff University and Zibo Radio and TV University. The College is led by the Shandong Provincial People's Government, and implements a school-running management system that is jointly built by provinces and cities and mainly managed by provinces. On March 29th, 20001year, Shandong Provincial People's Government decided to merge Shandong University of Technology with Zibo College to form Shandong University of Technology. After a year of preparation, on March 2, 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Shandong Institute of Technology and Zibo College, and formally established Shandong University of Technology.
