According to the notice of the Ministry of Education, international students who come to China for undergraduate study of Chinese with China government scholarships must receive preparatory education, but those who meet one of the following two conditions can apply for exemption: first, foreign students who have completed secondary education with Chinese as their learning language should attach the certificate issued by their graduation school that the teaching language of compulsory secondary education is Chinese, and second, students who have achieved HSK scores and reached the learning standard for entering professional schools.
The overall goal of training is to enable students to reach the basic standards of entering the professional stage of higher education in China in terms of Chinese language knowledge and ability, related professional knowledge and intercultural communication ability. After completing preparatory education, students should have certain Chinese communication skills and cross-cultural communication skills, and have certain professional basic knowledge.
In principle, the study period is 1 to 2 academic years. For freshmen with a certain Chinese foundation, the study time can be adjusted appropriately. The intensive education mode is adopted, with language teaching as the main part and professional knowledge teaching as the supplement. The courses of preparatory education include compulsory courses and elective courses.
The circular requires that the curriculum of preparatory education must include language, culture, professional knowledge and language practice. The first year of preparatory education shall not be less than 1 120 hours, and the second year shall not be less than 960 hours.
Colleges and universities offering preparatory education should strengthen the management of preparatory students. Students' performance during preparatory study is an important basis for scholarship evaluation and graduation certificate. The unified national assessment standard for main courses will be gradually implemented. The content of the course assessment is two parts: the Chinese proficiency test and the comprehensive examination of professional basic knowledge. At the end of preparatory education, students who pass the annual assessment of China government scholarship will receive the certificate of completion of preparatory education issued by their school, which will be transferred to relevant universities for undergraduate study without taking the entrance examination.
