Shenzhen polytechnic, founded in 1993, is one of the earliest independent higher vocational and technical education institutions in China. In 2000 and 2004, the former Shenzhen Vocational and Technical School and Shenzhen Health School were merged into shenzhen polytechnic respectively. In 2006, shenzhen polytechnic was identified as the first batch of national model higher vocational colleges. In 2009, the school passed the acceptance test and became the first batch of national demonstration higher vocational colleges.

As a public college, it has abundant teachers and beautiful campus environment. It not only has many popular majors, but also has three national vocational education professional teaching resource banks, two national high-level professional groups, 14 national key construction demonstration majors, 13 national backbone majors, four national teaching reform pilot majors, 1 national top-quality majors and national vocational college tourism.
