National defense students have the dual identities of ordinary college students and reserve military (police) officers. National defense students will join the army as officers after graduation. National defense students refer to reserve officers recruited by the army from high school graduates in ordinary middle schools and selected and trained from college students by local colleges and universities according to the needs of army construction.
National defense students are assigned to work in the army after graduation. According to the department, distribution plan, training objectives and military talent demand of the contracting units of colleges and universities, the military reasonably determines the distribution destination and posts in combination with the comprehensive performance of students and their wishes.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that from May 20 17, national defense students will no longer be recruited from ordinary high school graduates, nor will they be assessed and selected from college students, and the national defense student system has come to an end.
