1847 1 At the beginning of the year, Yung Hong, Huang Kuan and Huang Sheng went to study in the United States with Pastor Brown, which was the beginning of studying in modern China. Later, with the support of Zeng Guofan, Li Hongzhang and other westernization reformers, Yung Wing vigorously promoted and facilitated the earliest official study abroad education in modern China-young children studying in the United States.
From 1872, the Qing government sent 30 children aged 10- 16 to the United States for 15 years, and sent 120 children for four years in a row. The first batch of children arrived in August. After the first batch of overseas students sent by the government returned to China, they were active in the political, economic, diplomatic, financial, academic and other fields at that time and became well-known figures with far-reaching influence in China's modern history. Outstanding representatives include Zhan Tianyou, chief engineer of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, President of Beiyang University, President of Tsinghua University and Tang, the first president of Shandong University. They brought back brand-new knowledge of natural science and social science, which had a far-reaching impact on the spread of science and technology and academic ideas. The children's study abroad program can be said to have opened the door to study in modern China, and also opened a window for China people to see the world.
