What is equivalent academic ability?

Equivalent academic ability is a Chinese vocabulary, and the pinyin is tóng děng xué lì, which means that you have the same level of knowledge without graduating from a certain school.

The concept of equivalent academic ability often appears in the national postgraduate entrance examination. Usually, it refers to an undergraduate who has obtained a nationally recognized diploma of higher vocational colleges for two years or more (from graduation to the date of admission in that year) and has a nationally recognized degree, and meets the specific academic requirements put forward by the admissions unit according to the training objectives of the unit, and applies for the exam with the same academic ability as the undergraduate. It also often appears in the national unified examination for graduate students with the same academic ability.

Application requirements

Candidates who participate in the re-examination of the national postgraduate entrance examination with the same academic ability should try at least two undergraduate main courses related to their major in the re-examination. The additional test subjects shall not be the same as the initial test subjects.

The additional test method is written test. Candidates with the same academic qualifications who apply for Master of Laws (Illegal Studies), Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Master of Engineering Management or Master of Tourism Management may not take the exam. For the fresh graduates of adult education and the self-taught and online education candidates who have not yet obtained the undergraduate diploma at the time of re-examination, the enrollment unit can independently determine whether to add the exam, and the relevant measures should be announced in advance in the enrollment regulations.

Qualifications of candidates with the same academic level to participate in the national unified examination of master's degree foreign language level and subject comprehensive level:

(a) has obtained a bachelor's degree and worked for more than 3 years after obtaining a bachelor's degree; Or those who have obtained a master's or doctoral degree but not a bachelor's degree; Or a bachelor's, master's or doctor's degree winner certified by the study abroad service center of the Ministry of Education.

(2) The applicant's relevant materials in teaching, scientific research, professional technology and management have been submitted to the degree-conferring unit, and the degree-conferring unit has confirmed that he is eligible to apply for a master's degree.

(3) According to the Trial Measures for Granting Postgraduates Majoring in Clinical Medicine, Stomatology and Traditional Chinese Medicine (degree [2015]10), the qualifications of candidates who apply for postgraduate students majoring in clinical medicine, stomatology and traditional Chinese medicine with the same academic qualifications are not restricted by Articles (1) and (2) of this item, but they must meet the following requirements.

1. Bachelor degree in clinical medicine, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine;

2. A resident who is receiving standardized training for residents or a clinician who has obtained a certificate of standardized training for residents;

3. The categories and fields of professional degrees applied by the applicant should correspond to the standardized training of residents.
