His contribution to mathematics is mainly to prove the new results of Pythagorean theorem. He is also the only president in American history who was born as a mathematician.

Garfield was born in a poor family and lost his father at an early age. I learned to go to college by my own efforts. But he became the president of the university at the age of 2 6. During the civil war, he opposed slavery and joined the army. At the age of 3 2, he was promoted to major general of the army. Later, he was appreciated by Lincoln and abandoned the army for politics. At the same time, 1862, Ohio elected him as a member of Congress. President Lincoln persuaded him to resign from the Committee. At the 1880 Republican convention, Garfield failed to win the presidential nomination for his friend john sherman. Finally, in the electoral votes on the 36th, Garfield was nominated as the "dark horse", and Garfield was elected as the 20th president with 1 8 8 0. Only four months after taking office, he was shot in the dark and became the second American president to be assassinated. As an educator, orator, soldier and congressman, he made great achievements in his life.

His father died when he was four years old. After her husband died, her mother sold most of the land on the farm and paid off her debts. She worked hard on very little land and raised four children. Garfield went to several universities with excellent grades. 1859 was elected to the Ohio state legislature. Joined the Union Army during the Civil War and was promoted to Major General. 1860 was elected to the House of Representatives. 1880, he was elected to the United States Senate. In the same year, he was nominated as the party's presidential candidate and was elected. Garfield faced fierce party struggle after taking office, which made him feel overwhelmed. He is well aware of the disadvantages of "sharing fat among political parties", but he lacks confidence in the reform and has to try his best to take care of the balance when allocating civil service posts. After doing so, all factions are dissatisfied. He himself became a victim of this practice. 1881On the morning of July 2, he was shot by an unsuccessful official and died after 79 days of coma.

Garfield married Lydia Rudolph. Lydia is a farmer's daughter, the same age as Garfield. They have five sons and two daughters.
