Garfield was born in a poor family and lost his father at an early age. I learned to go to college by my own efforts. But he became the president of the university at the age of 2 6. During the civil war, he opposed slavery and joined the army. At the age of 3 2, he was promoted to major general of the army. Later, he was appreciated by Lincoln and abandoned the army for politics. At the same time, 1862, Ohio elected him as a member of Congress. President Lincoln persuaded him to resign from the Committee. At the 1880 Republican convention, Garfield failed to win the presidential nomination for his friend john sherman. Garfield married Lydia Rudolph. Lydia is a farmer's daughter, the same age as Garfield. They have five sons and two daughters.
