Handbook of biblical reading education
Section 3 Basic Theory of Adult Reading Classics Basically, anyone can and should read classics. However, there are some differences between adults and children in reading mentality and way. Although this book aims to encourage children to read the Bible, adults can actually read it. If adults can identify with and start reading the Bible, they will have a deeper understanding of children's reading the Bible. Therefore, let's talk about how adults read classics: due to the influence of the times, it is difficult for a modern person to put forward the idea of' reading classics'. Even if you really want to read, you can't overcome the first difficulty: that is, if you don't even know the words, how can you' read'? This dilemma is of great significance. If we don't give an explanation and remove psychological barriers first, a person will never be able to read the Bible. Please explain as follows: Hu Shizhi once wrote an article entitled' We are not worthy to read the Bible'. Take Wang Guowei as an example, he said: Wang Guowei is a master of Chinese studies. He has studied classics all his life, and he admits that four or five out of ten people don't know classics, and one out of ten or two people don't know the Book of Songs. Who are you and what do you know? How dare you say you want to read the Bible! This article is extremely destructive. Up to now, in our society, if someone wants to' read the Bible', others will certainly laugh: You don't know how to dare to read! Even the readers themselves imply that they can't read it if they don't understand it, so they dare not try. In fact, Hu Shizhi confused academic norms. Wang Guowei's incomprehension refers to the difficulties in textual research and exegesis. Since ancient times, scholars have said that the main purpose of "reading classics" is to inherit culture and start life, rather than haggling over textual research and exegesis, so even if some words in the classics are eternal mysteries, it will not hinder the emergence of Tessa. Why can't you understand some words if you can't understand them? Besides, Hu Shizhi's logic is meaningless. If you don't understand, you can't read. Then we should ask him: when will you understand if you don't study? In other words, ask him, should I read it first, or read it first? Don't read if you don't understand, just because you can't understand it all your life, you can't read it all your life. The less you know, the less you don't read, which leads to the decline of classics and the disintegration of traditions. This is Hu Shizhi's hope, and his hope has been fully realized today! The May 4th Movement not only made China people afraid to "read the Bible". Because Hu Shizhi and others advocated the vernacular excessively, even the descendants of the whole people lost the ability to read classical Chinese. Since ancient times, China scholars have been good at classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese. Formal written articles are written in classical Chinese, and the characters of the game are played in vernacular Chinese. Mainly in classical Chinese, supplemented by vernacular Chinese, so not only classical Chinese is well written, but also vernacular Chinese is handy. For example, Shi Naian and Cao Xueqin, the masters of vernacular Chinese especially admired by Hu Shizhi, are both ancient masters who have read many poems! Another example is Hu Shizhi himself. He thinks that the vernacular is well written and knowledgeable, as if he were born. In fact, he forgot that he began to learn classical Chinese at the age of four. He learned Zi Tongzhi Jian at the age of eleven and Zuo Zhuan at the age of thirteen! Other people who thought they were good at writing vernacular Chinese during the May 4th Movement were full of classics. However, Hu Shizhi and others ignored the fact that classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese could have coexisted, and forgot that classical Chinese is the basis of vernacular Chinese. Moreover, he did not take into account that almost all books in the subset of classics and history have been written in classical Chinese since ancient times. Originally, as long as the ancients learned to read classical Chinese in three or five years, books from the past three thousand years could be read in it.' Classical Chinese is not only an obstacle to cultural exchange, but also a design that can make culture inherit for a long time. If you don't understand classical Chinese, it means that if you don't understand classical books, you will never be influenced by traditional culture. This will inevitably lead to a fault in the cultural inheritance of this nation, and even its demise. People who lose their traditional cultural upbringing can easily lose their rational introspection and creativity at the same time. This effect has been clearly seen today. If we don't help in time, our society will gradually become a society that is not suitable for uneducated people. To teach only by a brief history of vernacular Chinese is to simplify oneself to humility, and learning from the west is the dwarfing culture itself. Since then, China has never trained adults. It should be noted that the consistent cultural mentality of the May 4th Movement is the word "forbearance". If you are not tolerant, you can't accommodate things. If you are not tolerant, you will become' overbearing'. "Overbearing" means that recklessness is cracked, and anyone who disagrees with himself will be "knocked down" and completely lose rational tolerance and development. So if you want to be "modern", you must overthrow the "tradition"; Shouting to "westernize", we must overthrow "China"; Calling for "science" means that "metaphysics" must be overturned. These are the same as calling for "vernacular Chinese", and they all want to overthrow the abnormal psychology under the same mentality as "classical Chinese". This mentality of "overthrowing" before being willing has become the root cause of social chaos in China in the past 50 or 60 years! Don't you see that our society is still a voice of "knocking down" each other! In this devastated situation, we must first correct this narrow-minded mentality in advocating' reading classics'. We should give full play to the spirit of tolerance, not only to ensure that classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese do not interfere with each other, but also to ensure that cultural literacy and science, eastern culture and western culture, traditional wisdom and modern life do not interfere with each other. They not only do not interfere with each other, but also are values in human reason. A rational person should respect them, learn from them, develop them and integrate them. Confucian classics is the most direct and effective education, which not only improves Chinese ability, but also inspires rationality and broadens the mind. Because in terms of language,' classic' is the most beautiful classical Chinese. As the saying goes,' great works come from the Six Classics'. With the training of classical Chinese studies, it is not a problem to read other ancient Chinese studies. Being able to read ancient Chinese will be helpful to the appreciation and writing of vernacular Chinese. Classics are also the root of culture. With the root of culture and education, it is easy to develop a person's rationality and cultivate a broad mind and the virtues of mutual respect and respect. We firmly believe that a China person with a self-tradition foundation will be welcomed by westerners, but will also be respected by westerners. If a China writer, lawyer, doctor, pianist or scientist has a profound cultural accomplishment in China, it should not hinder his professional achievements, but will be more creative. As we all know, Newton and Einstein were also people with considerable cultural attainments, and Russell, who was worshipped by Hu Shizhi, also grew up reciting ancient poems. Hope to adopt. Thank you.
