Double first-class university meaning:
Double first-class universities refer to the high-level university construction plan initiated by the Ministry of Education of China in 20 17. Its goal is to enhance the international competitiveness and influence of higher education in China by upgrading the international development level of a number of higher education institutions.
In this plan, the Ministry of Education has determined the selection criteria for "first-class universities" and "first-class disciplines". A first-class university refers to a higher education institution that has made outstanding achievements in discipline construction, teaching staff, scientific research and social services, and a first-class discipline refers to a key discipline with a global leading level in a certain discipline.
The process of choosing a double first-class university includes three stages: (1) self-declaration; (2) Evaluation and acceptance; (3) public recognition. Colleges and universities need to submit data including discipline construction, teaching staff, scientific research and internationalization for evaluation. After the selection, the Ministry of Education will provide additional funds, policies and other support resources to the selected universities to enhance their international reputation and academic influence.
At present, 42 institutions of higher learning in China have been recognized as double-class universities, including many well-known universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University and Nanjing University.
