The representative work of German writer Wolff (1888— 1953). Professor Manmenlock is a Jewish doctor with excellent medical skills. The surgical hospital where he worked was severely impacted when German fascism was rampant in 1932. The female doctor Inge believed the Nazi propaganda, and the doctor Habbah became a fascist Nazi stormtrooper ... The hospital was in chaos. However, Professor Manmenlock is not interested in these drastic changes. He believes that "only doctors and patients, patients and doctors, nothing else." He can't understand people's enthusiasm for politics. He thinks workers should earn money to buy bread, not knives and guns. He didn't understand why the Nazis insulted and persecuted Jews, and he didn't agree with the theory of class struggle, which was also a temporary craze of some people. His son Rolf is members of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The day after the fascists set fire to Congress, Professor Mamenlock and his son had an argument. The son angrily condemned the Nazi plot, but the professor said to his son, "People your age should work and don't talk!" " He drove his son out of the house to prevent him from "destroying this quiet home". But it wasn't long before Mamenlock's youngest daughter, Root, was insulted by fascist chauvinists among her classmates because she was Jewish and was expelled from school. Then, the fascists drove the professor out of the hospital they opened, robbed the hospital, and hung a black sign of "Jew" on the professor's chest. Professor Manmenlock finally woke up. He ignored the threats and inducements of fascism and publicly called on the people to resist fascism. However, when he saw cowards around him, he shot himself with indignation. After the death of the professor, the female doctor Inge learned the true face of Hitler's new * * * from the experience of this family. She took risks to protect Rolf from fascists.
Professor Mamlock is an upright intellectual. All he can think about is work and science. However, he did not understand the complicated political situation and drove his son who was actively engaged in anti-fascist activities out of the house. But later, the facts told him that in the face of a life-and-death class struggle, he had to stand up and fight tit for tat. The script exposes the cruelty of fascism through the story that the respectable Professor Mamlock was insulted and persecuted instead. At the same time, it is vividly pointed out that if people want freedom, they must be anti-fascist, and everything else is unrealistic.
The plot of the script is vivid and touching. Through the conflict between various characters in the play, the audience can not only see the necessity of anti-fascism in theory, but also make the audience unconsciously realize the abomination of fascism with emotion, thus consciously generating anti-fascist desire; Professor Mamlock was persecuted to death by fascism, which played an inspiring role that the general call could not play.
