Shanghai Theatre Academy (English: Shanghai Theatre Academy, abbreviation: STA, referred to as "Shangxi") is an art college in China that trains drama professionals. The College is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
It is the first batch of national master's degree awarding units and doctoral degree awarding units approved by the State Council, the first batch of experimental training units for artistic professional degrees, the national "key discipline project" to build universities, the national universities to build high-level universities to implement graduate programs, the Shanghai Municipal Government scholarship institution for foreign students, and a member of the World Theatre Academy Alliance.

Shanghai Theatre Academy, formerly known as Shanghai Experimental Theatre School, was founded in June 1 945+February1. 1949 10, Shanghai Experimental Theatre School was renamed Shanghai Theatre Academy.
During the period of 1952, the national colleges and universities were reorganized, and the drama department of Shandong University Art Department merged with the Shanghai Xingzhi Art School Drama Troupe and was formally established, renamed the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Drama.
1956 was officially named Shanghai Theatre Academy, which is a public institution directly under the Ministry of Culture. In April 2000, it was handed over to Shanghai and the Ministry of Culture. In June 2002, the former School of Performing Arts of Shanghai Normal University merged, and Shanghai Opera School and Shanghai Dance School became affiliated schools.
