Then, for students who have a good grasp of basic knowledge, it is obviously beneficial to learn some further problem-solving skills and methods to improve their mathematics level and even their intelligence level.
Why does the country prohibit the teaching of Olympic Mathematics? Isn't this caused by the Education Commission itself? A few years ago, international, domestic, provincial and municipal Olympic competitions for primary school students, including mathematics, were in full swing. Why? The state should have policies, and the winners of different levels of competitions have irresistible rewards. If less, they will get extra points for further studies, and even enter key schools without taking the exam. As a result, many students are working towards this goal and studying "Olympic Mathematics" hard. Even many students, in order to get extra points for further studies, sharpen their heads and squeeze into the Olympics, no matter how well they master the basic knowledge. Some people don't even know the meaning of olympiad, and everyone around them is learning olympiad and following suit. This obviously affects the study and mastery of basic knowledge, and it is really a bit of a hindrance and has played a bad role. Later, many people of insight in China put forward different opinions on this, and finally the State Education Commission explicitly banned it.
In fact, the State Education Commission explicitly prohibits Olympiad Education, which is also a one-size-fits-all policy. Of course, it is not a good rule. As for the Olympiad, I think what the Education Committee needs to explicitly prohibit is to prohibit all preferential treatment for the winners of the Olympiad in further studies and appropriately reduce the organization and holding of the Olympiad. In this way, without the influence of utilitarian thought, the enthusiasm of Olympic mathematics teaching will definitely decline and return to the rational category.
Therefore, I think it is beneficial and harmless for primary and secondary school students to learn Olympic Mathematics properly on the basis of learning basic knowledge well. But we can't do this for the sake of Olympiad. We should not regard it as a new course, but make it clear that it is actually an "advanced class" in mathematics education.
