Doctoral programs in Japan are divided into doctoral programs and doctoral dissertations. A doctor of a course needs to complete 30 credits and complete the thesis review, while a doctor of a thesis can obtain a degree through the doctoral thesis review. The doctoral program in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine lasts for 4 years.
Application requirements
A master's degree or equivalent is required to apply for a doctoral degree in Japan. If you want to study for a five-year doctorate, all undergraduate graduates can apply. International students must have received more than 12 years of formal education in their home countries before they are eligible to apply for Japanese higher education institutions.

Studying for a Ph.D. in Japan requires sufficient funds to cover the living expenses during the stay. Applications from specialized schools need to meet the requirements of Japanese education, such as those who have scored more than 200 points in Japanese subjects in the study abroad exam, or those who have passed the Japanese proficiency test 1 or 2.
