Authorized by the Massachusetts College Board, the college can award doctorates and bachelor's degrees in optometry (American degrees are owned by States). There are three ways to get a doctor's degree in optometry: ① to get a bachelor's degree and apply for a general four-year course or a three-year college course; (2) Those who have obtained doctoral degrees have undergone two years of intensive courses; ③ Overseas optometrists have taken advanced international courses. In the United States, the doctor of optometry belongs to the first professional degree. Usually, this course is to pursue a doctorate for four years after obtaining a bachelor's degree, so the total time for receiving higher education is eight years. The College has obtained the general certification of the Institute of Colleges and Universities of New England (NEASC) and the professional certification of the Optometry Education Committee (COE) recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The college is formed by the merger of four academic centers: School of Vision Science, School of Biomedicine, School of Community Monitoring and Public Health, and School of Special Nursing and Advanced Nursing. The college actively carries out research in vision and life sciences, and has recently expanded its research fields to immune mechanism, human and animal models of myopia development and health care strategies. The College maintains teaching cooperation with Boston 10 Community Health Center, New England Veterans Comfort Center, School for Disabled Children, Perkins School for the Blind, about 50 medical centers in Boston and New England, and private clinics. 1992 On the occasion of celebrating the 20th anniversary of cooperation with various community health centers in Boston, the college was specially commended by the Massachusetts government for providing eye care for 500,000 people in Boston through cooperation. With the approval of the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China), the College cooperated with Wenzhou Medical College to hold a doctoral education program in optometry, which is the only Sino-foreign joint doctoral training program certified by the Ministry of Education. According to the agreement of this project, graduate students with excellent academic performance in Wenzhou Medical College can continue their studies and study at the New England Optometry Institute for 1 ~ 2 years. Upon completion of the study, a doctor's degree in optometry (O.D.) recognized by the Chinese and American governments will be awarded. Dr. Optometry (O.D) is an independent health care practitioner with professional quality in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and dysfunction of the visual system, eyes and accessory structures and related systemic diseases.
