Abstract: Since 200 1, the Ministry of Education has decided to offer English courses in primary schools in cities, counties and towns all over the country. In the teaching process of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, English teaching has played a certain role in promoting the development of students' comprehensive ability, national quality education and the improvement of comprehensive national strength, and has been recognized by the society. At the beginning of basic education, it is inevitable to teach English to students, which is beyond doubt. On the whole, it has achieved high results. However, there are still some problems in the concrete operation of English education in primary schools. This paper analyzes the present situation of English education in primary schools in China, and puts forward some superficial suggestions to provide reference for the relevant staff studying English education in primary schools.

Foreign language is an important tool for absorbing human civilization and foreign exchange and cooperation. As a basic subject in Chinese schools, foreign languages have received unprecedented attention [1]. With the rapid economic development and social progress in China, people pay more and more attention to education. It is very important for a student to learn English well, especially English. In the autumn of 20001,the Ministry of Education decided to offer English classes in primary schools in cities, counties and towns all over the country, and changed the primary stage of English education from junior high school to primary school. This shows the importance of English and the importance that China attaches to English education. It is beneficial for students to provide English education at the beginning of basic education. In view of people's research on language learning, Renneberg pointed out that the best time to learn a language is in childhood. Children easily accept and learn a language from two years old to adolescence (10- 12 years old) because of the influence of language acquisition devices in the brain. When people enter adolescence, most people's brains are lateralized, their brains are mature, their nervous system is no longer elastic, children's language acquisition devices begin to lose their functions, and language learning becomes more and more difficult [2]. Although good achievements have been made in all aspects of primary English education in the past ten years, there are still some problems to be solved in primary English education in China.
First, the status quo of English education in primary schools in China
First of all, English education in primary schools is improving day by day. Educational administrative departments and teaching and research departments at all levels attach importance to English education in primary schools, constantly increase investment in education, and gradually improve teaching hardware and software, which provides a favorable guarantee for improving the quality of education [3]. Primary schools in our country realized the importance of English education at the beginning of basic education, and basically set up English education courses in the third grade of primary school, paying more attention to English education and increasing the input of human and material resources to ensure the stable progress of English education in primary schools. Thankfully, many parents have realized this, and they also ask their children to learn English like Chinese, mathematics and other courses. Parents' help to students' English learning is also an important factor to ensure students' effective English learning. In recent years, many normal colleges and universities have set up primary English education majors. Young teachers with this professional ability enter primary school teaching after graduation, which can be said to bring new teaching concepts to the whole teaching and strengthen the plasticity of teaching. At the same time, in-service English teacher training at all levels of society is also an important guarantee to improve English teaching in primary schools. However, there are many problems in primary education in remote rural areas, such as backward educational concepts and shortage of professional teachers. The teaching ideas of rural teachers are relatively backward, and some teachers even teach for the sake of teaching, failing to master scientific teaching concepts and laws. Many people even have nonstandard pronunciation. English is a language and a communication tool. Without accurate pronunciation, English teaching is a failure. Correct pronunciation and the habit of daring to speak English are the reasons why students practice successfully in the primary stage, which seriously affects their English learning [4].
Second, the study of English education in primary schools. At present, the research on English education in primary schools in China mainly focuses on feasibility research, practical research and theoretical research [5]. The main content of the feasibility study is the goal of primary school English education, and whether primary school English learning can be well connected with junior high school English learning; The main contents of practical research are the textbooks, teaching plans and teaching concepts used in English education in primary schools; The main content of rational behavior research is to summarize the actual teaching work, and summarize the various elements and related laws that constitute English education in primary schools, so as to better guide the specific teaching practice scientifically.
Second, measures to improve the effectiveness of English education in primary schools
First, strengthen the scientific nature of English education in primary schools. The development time of primary English education is not as long as that of Chinese and mathematics, so many aspects of primary English education need to be further improved. In order to allocate the class hours of English and other subjects correctly and reasonably, and fully realize the importance of English teaching, scientific and clear teaching objectives and teaching system should be established. In view of the lack of English language environment for most students in China and the particularity of children's cognitive and memory laws, it is required that the interval between courses should not be too long. Students have limited time to practice language in class and have little chance to get in touch with English, which is very unfavorable for students' continuous language learning and language habit formation.
Secondly, improve teachers' comprehensive ability. In order to introduce professional teachers from normal universities, professional English knowledge is the premise of correct and effective teaching. At the same time, young teachers will bring the latest and most scientific teaching ideas into the school to share with other teachers, which will promote the overall comprehensive quality of teachers. In addition, it is necessary to establish a scientific and reasonable evaluation method, mainly aimed at the teaching effect of teachers. Teachers can adopt the system of mutual evaluation of teachers' classroom situation, so that teachers can effectively find their own shortcomings, thus correcting their own shortcomings in teaching and striving to improve their comprehensive teaching ability. For some primary schools in remote rural areas, relevant departments should improve teachers' treatment to attract more outstanding talents, send English teachers abroad to study regularly, so that they can master and absorb new teaching ideas and concepts, further enhance the pertinence, practicability, application and effectiveness of training, pay attention to the deepening development and improvement of teachers' professional quality and teaching skills, pay attention to the combination of theoretical training and teaching practice, and pay attention to the combination of professional knowledge training and teaching skills training. A qualified teacher should provide students with the process of language learning and application, so that students can master it? Learn what? 、? How to learn? And then what? How to use it? .
English education in primary schools is related to students' future study career, and both society and schools should attach great importance to it. After more than ten years of development, from scratch, it has entered a stage of stable and rapid development, and has made many achievements. However, there are still many problems behind the good development, which poses new challenges to English educators in primary schools. Teachers are required to proceed from reality, not only to be good at finding problems, but also to be good at solving problems, learn from each other's strengths and strive to improve.
