Nanjing, referred to as "Ning", was called Jinling and Jiankang in ancient times. It is the capital of Jiangsu Province, a sub-provincial city, a megacity and the core city of Nanjing metropolitan area. It is an important central city in eastern China, an important scientific research and education base in China, and a comprehensive transportation hub approved by the State Council.
Nanjing is located in the east of China, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and coastal waters. It is the seat of China East Theater Command, an important gateway city for the development of the central and western regions driven by the Yangtze River Delta radiation planned by the State Council, and an important node city for the strategic intersection of the eastern coastal economic belt and the Yangtze River economic belt.
Nanjing is one of the first national historical and cultural cities, an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, and has long been the political, economic and cultural center of southern China. It has blessed China's new moon several times in history. There were ancient human activities in Nanjing as early as100-1200,000 years ago.
