For most of the day, students attend classes according to the subjects stipulated in the curriculum, but there is still a lot of spare time to control by themselves. Middle school students are in the developmental stage. They are energetic, lively, imaginative and interested in everything around them. However, they are immature, lack of knowledge, poor in analysis and discrimination, and easily infected by bad thoughts. If they don't enrich their after-school life with meaningful and healthy activities, they may be influenced by bad thoughts and even engage in harmful activities. The school organizes colorful extracurricular activities for them in their spare time, which can not only protect them from bad influences, resist the invasion and pollution of all kinds of bad social atmosphere, but also guide their vigorous energy and strong interest to the track of healthy development and meet their various spiritual needs. After class, activities such as current affairs and political study, situation report, speech and extracurricular reading can meet their spiritual needs of caring about major events at home and abroad and thinking about the value of life, help them establish a correct outlook on life and the world, and improve their ability to distinguish right from wrong, truth, good and evil, beauty and ugliness. In extracurricular activities, students can go out of the classroom, conduct social surveys, and get in touch with reality and society through visits, which can stimulate the spark of their revolutionary ideals and cultivate their thoughts and feelings of loving their hometown, motherland and socialist cause. In extracurricular activities, students can complete an experiment, make a work, complete a job, discuss a topic, obtain a scientific data and other practices. They can also cultivate students' meticulous scientific attitude, cultivate their spirit of collectivism and perseverance to achieve a goal, unite and help each other, love science, love labor, observe discipline and care for public property. In short, in extracurricular activities, vivid education and personal practice often leave a deep impression on students' minds and produce good educational effects.
(2) To enable students to give full play to their respective specialties on the basis of all-round development, adapt to the diverse needs and individual differences of students, and cultivate, discover and select all kinds of specialized talents.
There is no doubt that middle school education, as a basic education, should promote the all-round development of every student through classroom teaching and extracurricular activities. However, "all-round development" is only the foundation and necessary condition, not the sufficient condition. As far as talent training is concerned, we must combine the unity of all-round development with giving full play to the diversity of individual characteristics, that is, on the basis of "making every student fully developed in all aspects as far as possible", give full play to each student's hobbies and talents, and achieve "laying the foundation for all-round development and giving full play to talents" ... so that students can become people with all-round development and strengths.
Objectively, students' needs are diverse. They not only need to develop their own physical quality, social and cultural quality, but also need to develop their own psychological qualities such as cognition, ability, interest, emotion, will, character and temperament. In addition to learning and seeking knowledge, they also demand friendship, socializing, independent and free activities and creative activities, enjoying beauty and all kinds of cultural entertainment, and so on. While doing a good job in classroom teaching, we can meet their various needs by carrying out colorful extracurricular activities. It should be noted that different students have different physical and mental development, some are artistic, some are good at logical thinking and mathematical operation, some are good at reading and appreciation, some are better than scientific and technological activities and experiments, and so on. Some of them tend to be in a latent or embryonic state because they have no chance to express themselves. As long as you are properly guided, well trained and diligent in study and practice, you can form your own specialties and show your special talents in a certain aspect. Extracurricular activities can provide favorable conditions for students' development.
