In the history of western education, Spencer was the first educator who put forward the word "curriculum". In the western English-speaking world, the word "course" first appeared in the article What Knowledge is the Most Valuable by British educator Spencer (1859). According to this etymology, the most common definition of a course is "Courseofstudy", or learning course for short.
