In other countries, many people often mistakenly think that selling or eating chewing gum in Singapore will be flogged. This is incorrect, because although the Singapore government has banned chewing gum, it has never made the sale or consumption of chewing gum a crime of flogging, and offenders will only be fined at most. Similarly, littering, smoking in public places and not flushing public toilets in Singapore will all be prosecuted and fined.
