What does potassium sodium tartrate react with to form milky yellow precipitate?
The common metal ions in water are Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and so on. If the content is high, it is easy to react with OH- or I- in Nessler's reagent to produce precipitation or turbidity, which affects the colorimetric method. Therefore, before adding Nessler's reagent, potassium sodium tartrate should be added to mask these metal ions.
