Singapore's whipping principle
1. Adult male criminals are between the ages of 18 and 50, and can only be whipped after passing the medical examination.

A criminal can only be flogged 24 times at the same time, no matter how many crimes he has committed. (The maximum sentence for a judge is 24 years)

3. The condemned man will not be flogged.

If the criminal violates the prison rules, he can also be sentenced to flogging in the small court of the prison. (No more than 12 times)

For many misdemeanors, flogging is an "optional punishment", and it is up to the judge to decide whether to flog or not.

6. If a man and a woman commit the same crime and the circumstances are exactly the same, the female prisoner is only sentenced to imprisonment, and the male prisoner is sentenced to flogging in addition to imprisonment.

Extended data

Cost:

1993, 3,244 male criminals in Singapore were sentenced to flogging. By 2007, the number had doubled to 6,404. For at least 30 kinds of crimes, flogging is a mandatory punishment (flogging must be sentenced, but not reduced), and the list of crimes to which flogging applies is constantly expanding.

These crimes include not only serious crimes such as rape, robbery and drug trafficking, but also minor crimes such as illegal possession of weapons (including long knives and daggers), graffiti (including in public places or public facilities), hostage-taking, repeated drug use, illegal financial transactions (with the possibility of being sentenced) and overstaying for more than 90 days (commonly known as jumping off a plane). Carrying chewing gum will not be punished by flogging, but will only be fined. (Once sentenced to flogging, at least 3 lashes)
