Fang Shimin, whose real name is Fang, was born in Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province in September 1967. He studied and worked in the United States, and was the founder of New Threads and the website of the same name. Since 1999, Fang has set up the website of New Threads to expose the academic corruption in China's scientific and educational circles, criticize false reports in newspapers and periodicals, criticize Christianity, pseudoscience, pseudo qigong, pseudo environmental protection, and criticize Chinese medicine. Fang is also a columnist of many well-known print media, and has published some works on popular science and anti-academic corruption. Fang and his remarks caused great controversy in society because his judgment was too sharp.
